Wooden Bowls

from $60.00

These bowls are made from logs, live edge and reclaimed lumber. I turn each of these with the intent that it can be the centerpiece of your family’s tables for decades.

These bowls are meant to be used frequently and are perfect for anything from peanut butter sandwiches, salads, dinners, snacks and everything in between.

The smaller bowls (salt caddies) excel with all functions spice related, are great for smaller snacks and look AWESOME when paired with a larger board or bowl (think shrimp tails, olive pits, wasabi peas….).

Each of these bowls is turned no my lathe here at the workshop and are finished with vegetable based, food safe oil and local beeswax. They are 100% food safe and are built to last!

I make most of my bowls from logs that I source locally and some are made from live edge slabs that are thick enough and dried to the right moisture content.

The fun of making bowls is transforming a log, branch or slab into a form that is both functional and useable! A big part of the process is being guided by the wood in creating a final form that is functional and highlights the natural beauty, grain or shape of the wood.

The most fun, when you get all the other steps right, is watching the grain pop after the final sanding when you apply the walnut oil and beeswax - the grain jumps out and you get your first glimpse into the finished product!

Check out my instagram feed for more pictures and videos of success and fails! Luckily I have a wood stove in my shop and a firepit in my yard, so nothing gets wasted. We usually give the "FAILS" a viking funeral in the stove or firepit! It is therapeutic!

I work primarily in ambrosia maple (light with dark stripes), and cherry (light with a classic red tint that deepens over time).

In selecting a bowl:
1. Consider the color of the bowl (see above and look at the thumbnails for choices)
2. Determine the size of the bowl second - bowls are 6" - 13". For lengths over 13”+ message me and we’ll figure it out.
3. Think about the shape of the bowl. Do you want more of a platter (shallow bowl) or a deeper salad bowl?

Bowls are priced by diameter. This is a natural wood product, so grain types and color will vary from piece to piece.

Each of my boards and bowls comes with care instructions and the future option for a spa treatment. In the case of a friend or relative that ignores the care instructions and decides the dishwasher is the right place to wash your board. If you send me the board and pay the postage, I will rehab the board, including cleaning, sanding and an overnight soak in oil to bring it back to "like new" condition.
